Well Lexie headed out to England and Ireland with her best friend Chelsea on March 17th, so her brother and Jamie decided to go on a backpacking trip to the Lost Coast. I’ll post pics from the girls’ trip soon, but for now you get a pile o’ pics from my trip!
If you’re wondering, “The Lost Coast” is a section of northern California coastline that was too rugged to build a road across. It sits north of Ft. Bragg and south of Arcata, and unlike the rest of California’s coastline, neither Highway 1 nor 101 goes anywhere close to it. Instead a couple of roads run out to it and end at the ocean. Matt and I left a car at Shelter Cover (the end of one of these dead-end roads) then drove the hour and 45 minutes north to Matole Road (another one of these roads that ends at the coast), parked and started hiking south. We hiked 3-4 miles on the first afternoon (didn’t start until ~3 pm) 6-7 miles on the 2nd day, 9ish miles on the third day and finished off with a 5-6 miler on our fourth day.
The area is famous for being rugged and remote, and it did not disappoint. It is also famous for having fairly poor weather, and on that front we were blessed. We had gorgeous sunny skys for the whole hike except our last night and morning hike out when it rained pretty good on us. All-in-all, a great trip!

Lex and I made the trip up to Point Reyes National Seashore this Monday to take advantage of the day off (President’s Day), the elephant seal mating season, California grey whale migration season, and the gorgeous weather. Turned out it was sunny everywhere in California but Pt. Reyes though, so we had fog which kept us from seeing whales… and no doubt many other things. Nonetheless, it was a fun and memorable trip. Check the pics by clicking on the seals below!

Last weekend, Lexie and Laurie Beardsley ran their first half marathon after several months of training. The weather was gorgeous and the ladies totally rocked it, beating their goal time and finishing the 13.1 miles strongly. Matt Beardsley and I spectated from miles 8 and 11, and here is a gallery of the times we saw the girls:

Well, we’ve been busy since we got back, so I haven’t got any photos up until now. But it was an amazing trip at the end of June and begining of July (including our 3 year anniversary!) Click on the image of Tobacco Caye to see the Gallery.

My beautiful wife planned a wonderful camping trip with some friends (the Keys and Ellistons) to celebrate my birthday! We went to San Mateo County Memorial Park- it was gorgeous- the food was great- we took a hike and had a fire… life is good. Click the image to see an incomplete collection of pictures:
